Manufacturing-Month

Celebrating Manufacturing

Our Grand Erie region has many reasons to celebrate manufacturing.

Hundreds of manufacturing companies employ a total of 16,000 people, and those employees make an amazing array of products. Some products are household names, while others are for specialty markets. Products are sold locally, across Canada, North America and the world. Manufacturing industry success contributes to community prosperity.

Each year we celebrate Manufacturing Month by organizing eye-opening tours of select area companies, creating engaging We Make It Here videos and holding a Manufacturing Appreciation Breakfast.

We Make It Here 2017

The first year for our community’s We Make It Here videos focused on skilled trades. Many manufacturers have a need for skilled trades to operate their plants, meet the demand for their products and grow their business. Companies support apprenticeships in the skilled trades and will help existing workers gain new skills, providing on-the-job training and help with additional schooling.

Manufacturing Day tours 2016

2016 was the first year for Grand Erie to hold a Manufacturing Day.

The new event grew out of consultations with leading local manufacturers, who recognized a need to promote their industry and career opportunities, especially to young people.

A dozen companies from across the region participated in Year 1, hosting tours of high school students.

The tours were organized by the Workforce Planning Board in partnership with the Grand Erie District School Board, Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board and the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program.

To thank companies, a Manufacturing Appreciation Breakfast was held afterwards.
