What is the
Grand Erie Workforce Strategy?
Developed by the Workforce Planning Board and our partners, Workforce Strategy is a three stage strategic approach to better equip Grand Erie workers at the various stages of workforce development to enter and progress through a meaningful career path and avoid precarious employment, constant career disruption and chronic unemployment and underemployment.

Each phase of the Workforce Strategy identifies why workforce development is crucial during the various age categories.
Stage One
Workforce development in the 11-14 age range is about more than just preparing youth for their first job; it’s about providing them with the foundational skills, mindset, and opportunities to succeed in whatever path they choose.

The overarching goal of the Grand Erie workforce strategy is to provide the local workforce with the awareness, interest, confidence, employer exposure, experience and skills required to attain an entry-level role upon graduation and progress through a rewarding and meaningful career.

Stage Two
Workforce development in the 15-24 age category is critical because it provides young people with the tools, resources, and experiences necessary to navigate the complex journey from education to employment. By focusing on skill-building, career exploration, real-world experiences, and financial literacy, workforce development helps youth make informed decisions, find meaningful employment, and become contributing members of society, setting them up for long-term success in a rapidly changing world—both for their own benefit and for the greater economic good.

Stage Three
Workforce development in the 25+ age category is essential because it empowers individuals to advance in their careers, adapt to a changing job market, and remain competitive in an ever-evolving world. Whether it’s through career transitions, skill development, or leadership training, workforce development helps people navigate the challenges they face at this stage of their professional lives and ensures that they remain valuable contributors to their industries and the economy.
