Workforce Strategy – Stage Three
The goals of the Grand Erie Workforce Strategy – Stage Three, are:
- Establish a global reputation for Grand Erie as a Region of Educational Excellence where local trainers and educators collaborate to provide seamless access to local skills development, training and post-secondary education
- Recognize and accredit past learning and experience, formal or informal, of community members, including those who are internationally trained or have no formal credentials
- Shrink the skills gap in the local labour market
- Retain and attract workforce to Grand Erie, especially for hard-to-fill jobs
- Encourage lifelong learning in Grand Erie
- Be more inclusive of all types of learning and enhance the education system to work for all, including marginalized populations
- Increase opportunities to enroll in post-secondary education for adults 25 years old and older who otherwise may not have had the opportunity
- Improve self-confidence, empower, validate and motivate individuals to progress in their careers, resulting in overall positive mental and physical well-being for themselves and their family
- Grow the amount of employment opportunities that an individual can pursue, reducing underemployment, precarious employment and chronic unemployment
