Growing Careers in Agriculture
Ag education is about growing and promoting agriculture careers to youth in the Grand Erie region.
Grand Erie’s farm belt includes hundreds of farms in Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk counties and on Six Nations of the Grand River and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation lands.
Yet many students don’t know what happens on farms and don’t know the many jobs in agriculture, which uses innovative technologies every day.
Hundreds of school students attended day-long events in Haldimand County in 2024 and Norfolk County in 2023. Students learned about Ag careers by doing fun, hands-on activities, and from talking with farmers and people who work with farm-related organizations
AgScape, an organization that provides Ag-related education programs to Ontario students, put on our region’s first thinkAg Careers Competition in 2023 at the Norfolk County Fairgrounds in Simcoe. AgScape repeated the event at the Caledonia Fairgrounds in Haldimand in 2024.
Each day was organized by the Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie, the Grand Erie District School Board and the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board. Future events are being planned.
